Java Disabled in Firefox; Only For a Specific User; Works in Other Browsers

A truly odd one today. My Mac (running Snow Leopard 10.6.4) decided to throw a bit of a snit. The Java plugin for Firefox 3.6 seemed to stop working. No Java applets would load in the browser, and it seemed to work find in Chrome and Safari 5. It really spun my head when I logged in as another user and it worked!
WTF?
After fiddle-farting around with deleting caches, preferences and other nonsense, I re-downloaded Firefox and re-installed overtop the existing app in Applications. Oddly, that did the trick.
